James Duffy Family

A Chairde.  My fathers’ uncle, on his mothers’s side, Pat Duffy of Prospect/Fahburren was a member of the Westport Batt. He joined the Irish Volunteers in 1915, gathered intelligence for the IRA in Westport and took part in the Clogher and Carrowkennedy ambushes.  His brother Jim was also a volunteer but was killed accidentally by a comrade in Islandeady in April 1921.  Their sister Nora Hester was a member of Cumann na mBan and kept a ‘safe house’ outside Louisburgh, and helped some of the participants in the Carrowkennedy ambush to escape.  They took the anti-Treaty side but were later awarded pensions and are in the records. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of them.  Is Mise le Meas, Séamus O’Connell
