The Celtic Cross on the Republican Plot in Castlebar was unveiled by Dr. John Madden on 21st May 1934 . The inscriptions in Irish, one of which is Patrick Pearse’s panegyric at the grave of O’Donovan Rossa in Glasnevin on 1st August 1915 and was devised by Andy McTigue, Irish language scholar and later headmaster of Breaffy National School, outside Castlebar.
